Bloomberg’s Dedication To Social Media

Mayor Bloomberg’s (R) online staff recently released the information regarding their use of social media during his re-election campaign. Here are a couple interesting statistics:

-42% of the campaign website’s traffic came from social media sites

-Their online ad campaign resulted in 1.1 billion impressions

Bloomberg paid for his entire campaign himself, making nearly every idea and strategy possible, something that every campaign manager would kill for. However, Jonah Seiger – Chief Online Strategist for Bloomberg ’09 – explained this presented a unique problem, “Typically, people tend to volunteer if they’ve donated to a campaign – they feel a certain sense of obligation due to the financial investment. The Bloomberg campaign had to activate people who might not otherwise feel compelled.”
