By The Numbers Gov. Perry Will Win In Nov.
Patrick Williams at Dallas Observer made the claim before Tuesday’s Texas gubernatorial primary that Governor Rick Perry will serve as Governor for four more years. He explained that high primary voter turnout for one party likely means that that party will win in the general election. Williams based his prediction based on early voting that showed over 5,000 more people had cast a vote for Republicans than Democrats.
Republican Party of Texas political director Royal Masset said, “80-90 percent of the party’s primary voters will go to the polls in November. Of voters who don’t cast ballots in the primaries, that figure is around 40 percent.” If those statistics even remotely true, Perry will win easily in November. During Tuesday’s primary, 1,482,697 people cast a vote in the Republican primary, while only 677,693 cast a vote in the Democratic primary.
Masset goes on to explain that if you vote in the primary, “You’re on our computers. You’re going to get called by our candidates in November. You’re much more likely to call yourself Republican.” Democrats traditionally struggle in Texas, so it isn’t a huge leap of faith to say Governor Perry will win.
