Is Twitter Dumbing Down Politics?

Politics.co.uk posted an article asking the question, “Is Twitter Dumbing Down Politics?” The author makes the argument that 140 characters isn’t enough room for a politician to make an articulate argument.  However, we think that the author doesn’t understand the role social media plays in a online campaign.  Twitter and social media sites are not mediums to engage in full political debate but rather they are an appendage of an online campaign, used to direct people back to website.  If a politician or candidate can drive supporters back to their website they can gain their contact information or even solicit a donation, which is the goal of being online.
